Central Texas Flooding: A Message from the University Chaplain

Dear Baylor Family, 

We are deeply saddened by the devastating loss of life caused by the floods along the Guadalupe River in the Hill Country. My heart goes out to all those affected, especially the families who lost loved ones and those living in the vicinity. 

This is a devastating loss, and in moments like these we fall into the hands of our loving Lord. We mourn and we cling to hope. We falter and yet the Spirit holds us. Please know you are in my thoughts during this difficult time. Let’s turn our sadness towards prayer; let’s watch for those around us in need of comfort and practical assistance. 

Together we pray. 

“Lord of light, You are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble and darkness. We mourn today, and we bring your our offering of grief and sadness. We mourn but not without hope, for in You is life forever more. Be specially with those most affected by this tragedy – hold them fast, hold them near, be their comfort. Jesus, to you we turn, for you have the words of life. Grant healing and provision for those in need, strength for those who serve, and your loving presence to support everyone impacted by this tragedy. Amen."

The Office of Spiritual Life will be hosting a prayer gathering for our neighbors affected by the floods. The entire Baylor Family is welcome to join us on Thursday, July 17 from 12 - 1 PM in Elliston Chapel. As a community, we will go the Lord in prayer with our grief, petitions, and desire for comfort.
