Spiritual Life

Carlos Colón

Assistant Director for Worship and Chapel

Carlos Colón is a worship leader, a composer of choral music, and a songwriter of global songs.

Carlos was born in Chalchuapa, El Salvador. At a young age, he was forced to leave El Salvador and take refuge in Guatemala City due to the civil war in the country.  He holds a B.M. from Belmont University and a M.M. from Baylor University.

His music has been performed in festivals in the United States and abroad. More recently, his compositions have appeared in the Calvin Worship Symposium, Venezuela National Radio, and the Festival de Música Contemporánea of El Salvador. His music has also received acclaim in England, Cuba, and other countries. Colón’s international heritage and personal experience of civil war inform his compositions’ calls to justice, peace, and beauty.

Carlos is one of the editors of Santo, Santo, Santo/Holy, Holy, Holy a multicultural hymnal published by GIA Music in Chicago. His songs and musical settings of the Psalms are used in several of our chapel services at Baylor, and in churches throughout the United States and abroad.
